FOOTBALLING SUCCESS
Congratulations to Hari Anwyl Roberts on his recent achievements.
Harri played for the Welsh schools football team against Aston Villa at Villa Park in mid-April, this was a game in preparation for playing against England this month. He has now been selected to represent Wales in early May. To crown these achievements, Hari has received some fantastic news that he has received a scholarship from the Wrexham football team. He will start at the Racecourse in August at the start of a new and prosperous era in the club's history. Congratulations and good luck to the future. The school is very proud of you and we will be following your career.
BASKETBALL
You may have seen two of the school's pupils speak brilliantly on S4C news over Easter. Steffan Williams and Jac Crockett are members of the Welsh wheelchair basketball team. Here is a summary of the televised discussion in Steffan's words.
"Hello my name is Steffan and I represent Wales in the sport of wheelchair basketball. I started playing in 2016 for the Caernarfon team at the age of 6. I really loved it and didn't look back. To be a good player you need a high quality wheelchair which means it will be expensive. The chairs used are PER4MAX but cost £6,400. Deborah the team manager made the team initially look for grants but there was little success. We have therefore set about to raising the money and through kind donations we have received we were able to order the chairs. The chairs arrived on the 14th of February this year. We love playing and practicing in them"
Good luck to you lads and I hope the new chairs help you improve your game.We are extremely proud of the success of both of you getting to play to such a high standard and represent your country. That's a credit to you and to the support you're getting.
RUNNING
Good luck to Mr Dyfed Pritchard, one of the school staff who is taking part in the Pilgrims 60 challenge on the 6th of May. This is a running race from Bangor to Aberdaron and raises money for the Battens Disease Family Association charity. This is a very cruel disease that affects the brains of young children. Dyfed will run on behalf of Anna Roberts and her family who lives with the condition.
OPTIONS
Year 9 pupils have been actively considering what subjects they would like to study for GCSEs. Thanks to Mrs Nia Parry from Careers Wales who has been running very fruitful sessions advising them and also to Mrs Jacqui Parry for ensuring that there is a comprehensive programme in place to guide the pupils through the process. All Year 9 pupils had the opportunity to discuss with their Year 10 peers to get a feel for what is being offered. This has been a very valuable experience with Year 10 pupils advising wisely.
NELI THE ELIPHANT
We mentioned Neli the Elephant in the last issue but it's obviously gone astray again as you didn't get to see a picture of it. Here it is Neli then!
How many of you, former pupils, teachers and parents who remember her? We know she was here in 1982 as one of the school's current staff remembers carrying her on a rugby trip and Neli keeping an eye on the team travelling on the bus. I wonder where else she's been? Wondering if you have a story to share with us about her progress when you were in school? We hope to be able to gather together as many memories in our tent at the Eisteddfod where Neli will be the guest of honour.
