Welshness Committee

On the 25th of April Siân Eirug, Secondary school’s language strategy coordinator came to meet the members of the Welshness committee to discuss ideas for activities that would promote the use of Welsh.

The committee hope to work on these ideas in the coming months.

Improvements To The Premises

There has been quite a lot of work going on at the Ysgol Glan y Môr site to make the place safer, more entertaining and more welcoming for our pupils. As you can see from the picture, the Gilfach is a nice shelter for pupils to socialise during breaks and lunchtime, and even a nice place to hold the occasional lesson in the fresh air. We are also currently installing more picnic tables, new football, rugby and basketball goals, and a sand pit for the long jump on site, so it is very entertaining here now!

In order to be able to do all this, and in order to keep pupils safe on the school site, we have had to close access to the school field to the public. Fencing work is underway, and the site will be locked outside school hours from now on. The furthest rugby field, near Ysgol Cymerau will remain unlocked for the time being, but the gate on it will be closed during the day when pupils are there for their lessons. We are proud to be able to support local organizations such as Pwllheli Youth Football Club, Dwyfor Cycling Club, and Dwyfor Dragons Triathlon Club, and we will still ensure that they and similar organisations can have access to the field for their activities on our grounds as usual.

Heathly Living in the garden

The Outdoor Learning provision is going from strength to strength, with the DAA Class crew busy helping in the Dwyfor Healthy Living garden as well as around the school site.

They do that together with the Gwynedd Dementia Actif crew, and get great benefit from chatting and working together with the experienced gardeners who are part of the crew.
