With the end of term approaching, here are some of the events that have taken place during the last month.
Adran Mathemateg
Pupils from Year 8 competed in The National Science Society Mathematical Competition, arranged by Bangor University. Many pupils received a certificate but special congratulations to Gwenno Hughes, Lily Hardy and Elliw Dyfed on receiving a gold certificate for achieving a very high Standard.
Congratulations to Morgan on his success in a Mathematic Mastery Class that he has been attending. He will be travelling to London to participate in a Mathematical Event following his success.
Urdd Eisteddfod
Many represented the School and Eryri area in the National Urdd Eisteddfod held in Denbighshire in June. Fflur Williams competed in the disco dancing competition for pupils in year 7 to 9. The year 7 to 9 Cerdd Dant party and the year 10 to 13 Cerdd Dant group had the honour of performing in one of three new pavilions on the field and everyone gave a commendable performance.
As a School we are very pleased of Lea Mererid Roberts’ (year 9) achievement, she came third in the Piano Competition for pupils in year 7 to 9. The competition was of very high standard - Many congratulations to you Lea.
Little Literary Festival
Recently, some year 7 pupils presented am item in the Little Literary Festival, that was being hosted by Neuadd Dwyfor on Sunday 12th of June. The subject of their presentation was Cynan and Baled Largo. It was an opportunity for the pupils to share what they had learn about Cynan in their Welsh classes, as well as showing their creative work. It was a varied presentation showcasing their talent in role play, creating animations, plaque making and creating an information booklet.
Welcome To Llyn And Eifionydd
As part of the preparations for the National Eisteddfod, the pupils created a video clip to welcome the National Eisteddfod to Llyn and Eifionydd. They did this by creating sings of their favourite places, or of important places in the area. In the end, all the pictures were put together to create a clip welcoming the Eisteddfod.
Proclamation Concert
It was a privilege for us as a School to be invited to take part in the proclamation concert to welcome the National Eisteddfod to Llyn and Eifionydd area. Members of the cerdd dant party and the cerdd dant group performed in the concert. The highlight of the evening was singing “Yma o Hyd” with Dafydd Iwan and all the other artists to conclude an unforgettable evening.
Kariad Show
A group of year 7 pupils were entertained by Karen Wynne from the company ‘Kariad’ with a virtual show.
Within this workshop, the pupils had the chance to learn magic tricks.
Following this, the pupils met with Karen once again on Teams, to give her feedback on how to adapt the show for pupils transferring from primary to secondary.
The pupils had clear opinions and very practical ideas.
Basketball
Many congratulations to Jac Crockett and Steffan Williams for being selected as members of the Wales under 14 Wheelchair Basketball team. This is a great achievement and an acknowledgement of the hours of hard work and practice with the Celts, Caernarfon Wheelchair Basketball team. We are very proud of you and good luck!
French Department
Some year 9 pupils took part in the Anthea Bell Award for Young Translators competition-. The competition was arranged by the Translation Exchange in the Queen’s College, Oxford University.
This year, for the first time in the competition’s history, the pupils could submit translations from French to Welsh.
Three pupils from the school were commended by the judges for the Standard of their work, and with over 3,200 submissions from over 260 schools across the UK, this is a great achievement!
Many congratulations to Elliw Evans, Sennen Wray and Jac Jones for their success.
Primary Visits
During this month, year 6 pupils have been visiting the school in preparation for September. They had the chance to participate in a wellness workshop, music workshop, art session, language class and learning team working skills. We hoped everyone enjoyed themselves and we look forward to welcome you all in September.
Farewell
