Welcome back

It is September once again which means the beginning of a new school year. Last year was quite a different one but the hope is that this year will be like a normal year.
As is usual at the beginning of the school year we welcome new staff and pupils to the school. We hope that you will all be happy here at Glan y Môr. As a school we would like to congratulate Mrs Medi Jones-Edwards and Mrs Tanya Hughes Jones on the birth of Mei John and Nansi Rhys during the summer holidays.

Enjoying Some Activities

During two weeks before closing for the summer holidays a number of cricket tournaments and rounders were held for the various years and the pupils had an opportunity to enjoy.
Year 7 and cybi pupils listened to the Gwynedd and Môn Schools Music Service ensemble. This is what Mr Iwan Williams, Head of Music had to say about the event:

“After all of the restrictions on musical activities during the year, it was a pleasure to be able to welcome members of the Gwynedd and Môn Schools Music Service to the school at the end of the summer term. There was an entertaining presentation and polished performances from the ensemble. I really hope that we will be able to resume more similar activities soon”.

Achievements

There was considerable success for some of the school’s pupils. As you remember from the last issue of Llanw Llyn, a team of year 10 pupils won their place in the next stage of the life sciences challenge organised by Cardiff University. We are proud to report that Tomos Roberts, Osian Thomas and Sam Griffiths had success once again and they will be challenging another team from either Tryfan School or Syr Hugh Owen School in the final mid-September. If circumstances will allow, the final will be held in Cardiff. Good luck boys.

Recently, pupils from Business classes year 10 have been busy competing in a challenge for the whole of Wales, named “starting something good” by Wales Big Ideas. The requirements of the challenge was to create an idea for a new local social enterprise.

We are very pleased to be able to congratulate Megan Jones for winning the competition, in the North region. The name for her social enterprise would be “Rhyfeddodau Cymraeg” and the idea is to promote Welsh names in Pen Llyn on maps created by local artists. As the winner, Megan received £100 to give to a charity of her choice, she chose Alaw Ward, Gwynedd Hospital.

Llion Ferris, Gethin Johnson, Tomos Morris, Elis Ogilvy-Bardsley and Elis Thompson from the ACE Visors business crew received very high praise for their ideas of collecting recyclable rubbish and then turning them into safety visas.
Congratulations to all the pupils for taking part and receiving praise from the judges.
